Review – Wrest Park, English Heritage, Silsoe

Age of Kids – 2 & 4

Age of Adults – Still in our 30s when I wrote this (just)

I’ve been meaning to try out Wrest Park for ages, but, to be honest, I thought it was a little pricey for the whole family.

But now my big boy is back at school, it’s not too bad for just me and the little one, as under 5s go free. And I’m so glad we went, especially as the sun came out.

There is a lovely little play area when you walk in, with bits for both little ones and bigger kids. Not as elaborate as some parks, but definitely the prettiest I’ve seen. A sweet wooden play area, surrounded by flowers and bunting.

The cafe is also open, with loads of outdoor seating and a few seats inside as well. It had a good selection of lunches (hot and cold) and cakes. It isn’t cheap, but not overly expensive either and the food was nice.

You can then walk out of the walled garden and explore the grounds, which are stunning and beautifully kept. There’s lots of pretty water features and buildings and a small wooded area, so lots to explore.

We didn’t actually make it far, as the small people just wanted to go back to the playground. But it would be a lovely walk with a baby in a sling, or sleeping child in a buggy. Or even an older child, who will actually walk more than two steps without stopping to pick up a stone!

All in all, a lovely morning out with my preschooler and her bestie. My daughter especially liked it when the ice-cream truck turned up in the grounds.
